Minor move will net minor results
The Yankees have acquired 24 year old outfielder Greg Golson from the Rangers for minor league prospect infielder Mitch Hilligoss. Golson batted .258 in triple A last season with 27 extra base hits. Golson was said to be the fastest player with the best outfielder in the Rangers system. His speed probably has a bit to do with the number of extra base hits he had. His seven MLB at bats probably isn’t going to land him a spot on the 25 man roster. What this move does do is provide the Yankees a little depth in the outfield down on the farm. I can also see him as being next years Freddy Guzman. Perhaps a September call up as a pinch runner.
In other Yankee news Xavier Nady signed a deal with the Cubs for 3.3 million plus incentives. Definitely more than the Yankees would have spent on a rehab case. Johnny Damon seems to be the most talented Left fielder on the market and I keep hearing how this this writer or that writer believes that he will eventually end up back on the Yankees. I’m hear to tell you kids that unless Johnny approaches the Bombers and says “ I want to be a Yankee and I’ll do it for 2 million on a one year deal” Don’t expect to see him in pinstripes.
