three down one to go

The New York Yankees are one win away from securing a 40th trip to the World Series. Most pundits have the Yankees in the fall classic already. I will not lie their chances are extremely good. Sixty nine times a team has taken a three games to one lead in a championship series. Only eleven times has the underdog come back to win.  The Yankees will never forget 2004 and their monumental collapse. The difference is this team is much better then that team.

The 2009 version of the New York Yankees are better in every way shape and form then the 2004 team.  Alex Rodriguez is not human. That is as simple as anyone can put it.  Buster Onley and the boys over at ESPN can go on and on about how he is in a better place mentally and blah blah blah, and that all might be true but the fact of the matter is he is just too good of a hitter to be dormant all October long.  I will not deny that there is a serious mental aspect to the game of baseball but as big Mike Rook said earlier this month,  A Rod was bound to break out of this funk.  Boy has he ever. A Rod mashed a single, double, homer, and took a walk in last nights mashing of the Angels. A Rod will continue to be on fire and it will be damn near impossible for the Angels to stop him.

Obviously CC Sabathia was lights out. He earned his pinstripes last night beyond a doubt. To come out on three days rest and pitch lights out against one of the best hitting teams in baseball is magical. It is what October baseball is all about.  Except I knew he would be lights out this October. He has been on fire since, oh yeah the whole year.

The important part of last nights game was the kiddies. Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano finally got it going at the plate. Melky had arguably the biggest base hit of the game giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead. If the Yankees want to win this series and compete in the World Series they have to get production out of the bottom of the lineup. Bottom line.

If the bottom of the lineup and the stars on the team can keep it up for the remainder of the post season then the Yankees will be incredibly hard to beat.

A Rod seeith A Rod hitith its as simple as that. I still would like to see Gardner get more plate time, he is just flat out better than Melky period!
