White Sox Now Favorites in the Central?

riosSure, the Tigers are 3 games up, and they’ve got a talented squad, but with the acquisition of Alex Rios (and his huge contract) today, I say the White Sox are the favorites for the Central crown. The White Sox also picked up Jake Peavy at the deadline. His target date for returning to the bigs is Aug. 28. Along with Peavy, the White Sox have Mark Buerhle (3.89 ERA, 1.18 WHIP), Gavin Floyd (3.91 ERA, 1.22 WHIP), and John Danks (4.23 ERA, 1.34 WHIP). Okay, so its not the best rotation in the bigs, but it’s pretty solid. No hitter wants to face Peavy and Buerhle on consecutive days. The South Siders also have a dominant offense now, with Carlos Quentin, Jim Thome, Paul Konerko, Jermaine Dye, Gordon Beckham, Alexei Ramirez, and now Rios. This is a team that could pull past the Tigers to win the central. Dye and Thome will walk as free agents after this year, but this team could still be one of the better teams in the league next year. White Sox fans may be concerned about the money their team has committed to their recent pickups, however they have to be glad that their team is trying to make a push for the post season.
