Magglio ordonez

Ordonez has been benched by skipper Jim Leyland. He will return to the lineup on Tuesday.  He has been slumping to say the least. He is hitting at a .273 clip with just 2 home runs and 22 RBI. All his numbers are well below his career average.  His Slugging % is almost 200 points lower then his career average right now. He has drove in 100 or more runs three years in a row. That streak is most certainly in jeopardy.  He has just 9 extra base hits.  The question is what is happening?

The fact is he is 35 years old. You can’t expect him to be as good as he has been.  There is always a drop off.  Sure the Tigers expect more from him.  I am sure Ordonez expects more from himself. However, a .273 average and a .347 on base percentage isn’t exactly terrible. It appears that Ordonez is just seeing a natural drop off in his skills for his age. Leyland gave him 5 days off to clear his head. Truth is unless you can go back in time then this drop off is permanent.
