Clay Buchholz to Triple-A Pawtucket

buchholz20headshotThe Boston Red Sox have optioned right hander  Clay Buchholz to Triple-A Pawtucket . This is a suprising move but a tribute to how deep the Red Sox pitching staff is. However I believe that Wakefield needs to go and clay would win more games but they don’t pay me to think.

Also the Sox have placed the following players on the disabled list :`1 Right-hander John Smoltz (right shoulder surgery), outfielder Mark Kotsay (right elbow), shortstop Julio Lugo (right knee surgery), outfielder Jonathan Van Every (right ankle sprain) and right-hander Miguel Gonzalez (right elbow surgery)  retroactive to March 27.

Boston must make at least one more move by Sunday to get down to the 25-man active limit. The Red Sox have plenty of questions to answer this summer. How many games will Mike Lowell be able to play? Can David Ortiz stay healthy and strong? Is there ever going to be enough protection for Ortiz in a Manny-less lineup? But with the questions, the Red Sox have plenty of talent.
